Latest news on the Bill
Following agreement by both Houses on the text of the Bill it received Royal Assent on 10 February. The Bill is now an Act of Parliament (law).
Summary of the Bill
This Bill will reinstate the Government's terrorist asset-freezing regime, after the Supreme Court quashed the Terrorism (United Nations Measures) Order 2006 and provisions in the Al-Qaida and Taliban (United Nations Measures) Order 2006.
The Court found that the Treasury was exceeding its powers in using the United Nations Act to give effect to United Nations Security Council Resolutions on freezing terrorists' assets. The Bill, which will be put through Parliament using the fast-track procedure, will make the provisions of the two Orders in Council valid again.
